Location & description
Tawaghat was a small mountain village in Pithoragarh district Uttarakhand. Even in 1994 a bus could ply from Dharchula up to Tawaghat and no further. Today a much longer and better motorable road goes much further than Tawaghat.
The village is situated on the banks of Kali Ganga river at an altitude of 914 meters. It is in lower Himalayas.
Much has happened since 1994 in and around this area.
A motorable road from the national highway at Tawaghat from Dharchula has been linked up to Dhakar village, about 50 km from the highway giving access to Darma valley villages.
Thanks to the motorable road and KMVN promoted homestay culture among the villages, Darma valley with snow-covered Himalayan peaks, glaciers, scintillating river views and dense birch forests is fast becoming a popular tourist attraction.
