Siliguri has long been positioned as the gateway for North Bengal and North Eastern India tourist destinations. In recent times it has seen massive growth and now stands as the third largest city in West Bengal.
To expand its scope as a major rail-head, another satellite town New Jalpaiguri has been created where most of the long-distance trains pass-through or terminate.
The North Bengal airport at Bagdogra belongs to the Siliguri New Jalpaiguri area.
Siliguri is now a large and modern business, tourism and learning center in Eastern India with its own fair share of tourist attractions such as two beautiful monasteries, Mahananda wildlife Sanctuary, famous Coronation bridge and so on.
It serves as the gateway to Darjeeling, Sikkim, Bhutan, the North East and the Dooars forests.
